WIn10 eduroamCAT-App: Installation button remains greyed out
The installation button remains greyed out if an (older) eduroam profile is found on your system. Please delete the old profile under connections and restart the installation.
Android: eduroamCAT-App Download
For Andoid 7+ you can download the APK directly from our website instead of the download from the Play Store. For older Android versions you must enable the installation of APK files under "Settings> Security> Unknown sources". In Android 7 and newer version, you will be asked explicitly during the installation, if the app should be installed.
Why do you have to install extra server certificates?
Verifying the server certificate ensures the authenticity of the authentication server, which checks your username and password. This will prevent your password from being read by third parties.
Please note that the implementation of this check on some devices or more precisely the drivers of the respective WiFi cards is not correct, so that connection problems can occur. In these cases, we recommend updating the driver of the WiFi card and, if necessary, requesting support from the respective manufacturer.
This certificate is already installed as a certificate authority.

If you see one of the above messages, it is likely that your browser tried to install a certificate.
This is neither required nor desirable for using the WLAN. All required certificates need to be installed for your operating system. Download the relevant certificate file to your computer (right-click on the file, "save target as..." in the pop-up menu) and install the certificate (double-click on the downloaded file, "install certificate...", "Next", "Next", "Finish").
Authentication problems on smartphones and tablets
It happens that smartphones / tablets have a problem authenticate with the eduroam-network, which may be due to a space behind the user name, which is automatically added by the keyboard app. Please make sure during the configuration that such a space is not inserted automatically and check the username if you have connection problems.
DNS problems on Windows
If the DNS settings are incorrect or no requests are made to the DNS server, it may help to restart the DNS service. Use the Windows search to display the overview of "Services". Find the entry "DNS Client" and restart the service.
802.11n connection problems with Intel wireless cards
Intel chipsets such as the Intel Ultimate-N 6300 WLAN Card may experience problems with 802.11n connections under Linux and Windows. Such chipsets are installed in numerous Lenovo models (T410, T410s, T510, W510, X201, T420, T420s, T520, W520, X220, W701, W701ds). Here can a new driver or Linux help a kernel update.
As a workaround, it is also a good idea to switch off the n standard. In Windows you can disable it in the driver configuration and under Linux with the command:

For Linux, it is important to shut down the PC completely (experience shows a simple restart is not always enough) and start again.
Please note that this will disable the n-standard for all networks, not just eduroam, and may result in slower connection speeds.
You can undo it with the following command:

Can I use the WiFi also with devices that are not described in the instructions?
No, only those operating systems listed at our Wifi overview page are supported. Certain devices, as e.g. iPhone (Firmware 1.x), Google G1, Nintendo DS, Sony Playstation, various Sony Ericsson mobile phones, Blackberry etc., do not support the required IEEE802.1X standard (EAP-PEAP or EAP-TTLS with PAP authentication). Any questions addressing this issue will not be answered.
What is the network name (ESSID)?
Please use the network name "eduroam" or "TU-Berlin_802.1X" for direct authentication.

With how many devices can I use the WiFi at the same time?
You can be logged into the eduroam-network with up to four devices at the same time.
Which radio spectrum is supported?
The WiFi-network of the TUB transmits in the 2.4 GHz and in the 5 GHz range. The specific frequencies to be used are recalculated by the access points at regular intervals on the basis of current conditions. You do not have to set anything in your personal device (the channel selection must be set to "automatic").
Make sure that Germany (or Europe or EU) is set as the WiFi region!
For information only the used channels:

Note: not all channels available in Germany can be used TU-wide to comply with legal regulations. This can cause problems with foreign mobile devices. In this case, use technology that is designed and approved for the European market.
What speed can be reached with the WiFi?
We offer speeds of 2.4 GHz (802.11g) and 5 GHz (802.11a/n) with a bit rate of up to 54 MBit each for all areas. In areas with a constantly high data transfer volume, we upgrade the facilities to (Draft-)N 2.0 so that rates up to 300 MBit can be reached. The rate that can be used realistically however, reaches 50% of the signal's rate due to protocol overhead, error correction etc. These rates of 25 or 125 MBit have to be shared by all users of the same access point. The 5 GHz band (802.11a/n) is currently not so much in use so that higher rates might be available. We therefore recommend all users to prefer this band as long as their consumer device supports this standard.
Please note: Speeds above 54MBit/s always require WPA2 encryption with AES (802.11n standard). With WPA1 and TKIP you can reach max. 54MBit/s everywhere.
What is the IP address range for the WiFi?
Currently, the IP address range that is (automatically) provided for the WiFi is:
- from 220.127.116.11 to 18.104.22.168 (22.214.171.124/17)
However, we cannot guarantee these addresses to be valid for all times.
Visitors of TU Berlin, e.g. guest researchers, can access the eduroam-network with the account provided by their home university if the home university belongs to the eduroam alliance, as does TU Berlin. Please see the instructions of your home university to configure your eduroam connection.
