Virtual Root Server
In order to relieve you from
maintaining your own hardware and to decrease your charges, tubIT
offers root servers based on virtualisation technologies.
A root server is a Windows, Linux or Unix system which you can configure to your needs. You can install any webserver, database system or script languages in order to host your own websites or web applications.
After our setup you will administrate your root server on your own responsibility, meaning that you are required to take care of new software, updates and backups.
The service aims at departments which want to operate a virtual server and do not want to maintain their own server hardware.
The system administration is not conducted by tubIT but by the department. Thus you require your own system administrator with experience in Linux, Unix or Windows server administration.
Before you can apply for a root server, these requirements have to be met:
|Apply for OrgName - short caption
of your department (role administrator
For the application in TU Portal you require a tubIT account. (The root server access via VMWare also requires a provisioned tubIT account)
You apply for a root server as owner of the role "Hosting Antragsteller" using the TU Portal application "Server-Hosting-Antrag" from the menu "IT-Anträge".
You can name your virtual server and specify a subdomain (Orgname). The server name will have the following format:
If you leave the subdomain empty a name of the following format will be generated automatically:
