Information for freshman students

We are the central IT service for Technische Universität Berlin. We provide staff and students with a multitude of high-quality services in all areas of information processing.
We have put together some information to help you familiarize yourself with our IT services.

You have received an email from the Office of Student Affairs with a TUB ID and an email from Campus Management (ZECM) with instructions about logging in. This should enable you to set up an applicant account, which you will need for the rest of the enrollment process.

Once you have enrolled, you will receive an email from the Office of Student Affairs and from the ZECM. Please follow the instructions in the emails to set up your TUB account. Subsequently , you will use only the TUB account to log into any TU system.
The campus card will be sent to you after you set up your TUB account. It is your:
- student ID,
- semester ticket (student public transportation pass for public transportation),
- ID to enter the university at night or on the weekend,
- library card, and
- opportunity to enjoy student discounts.
You will also receive your MensaCard by mail once you have enrolled. Use the machines in the canteen to put money on your card, which you can then use
- in all canteens in Berlin run by the studierendenWERK;
- for the TU’s print@campus system to print, copy, and scan documents.
The TUB portal is the IT control center. Log in with your TUB account and password via the following link: www.tu-berlin.de/login_pw 
- Administer your TUB account data (e.g., change your password, manage your TAN lists, etc.) under “Mein Profil" (My Profile).
- Inform yourself about possible lectures under “Vorlesungsverzeichnis" (Course Catalogue).
- Register for exams online under “SLM Exam Registration (SAP).” This system is also called “tuPORT.”
- Download your documents, lecture notes, and assignments under “ISIS” or “MOSES.”
- Acquire free or affordable software under “Software Portal.”
- Search for instructions, information, and descriptions using the search bar at the upper right.
mTAN and TOTP
You will need a TAN for important functions in the portal. When you set up your TUB account, you will need to print out the corresponding TAN list. It is much more practical, however, to activate the mTAN procedure in the portal. This will allow you, if necessary, to receive your TAN via mobile phone. Alternatively, you can use the TOTP procedure. The required security code will be sent to your mobile phone via an app.
The mTAN and TOTP procedures also allow you
- to reset your password and
- book and enter our group study room free of charge.
Your TUB account allows you free Wi-Fi access to TU Berlin. This Wi-Fi is called “eduroam” and the best thing about it is that it works all over the world at universities that also use the eduroam network!
The VPN constitutes a secure (encoded) “tunnel” between the TU intranet and your device, thus integrating your device into the TU intranet system. This allows you to use all of the TU Berlin’s intranet services (especially useful for working at home, researching literature in the University Library online, or online courses).

Save all your online data in the tubCloud. This has 20GB of storage space and you can access it from anywhere. You can work on the data together with your research or working group or share data as you wish with just a few clicks. Furthermore, your data will be stored on our secure TU servers—they will not simply end up somewhere in the world. tubCloud

Spend too much time programming? Then you will like GitLab. GitLab is a web application and the ideal way to save, administer, versionize, and develop your documents and software collaboratively.
Microsoft Office 365
TU Berlin takes part in the Office 365 Student Advantage Benefit and Teacher Benefit programs, which allows you to use Office 365 Pro Plus for free on your private devices for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may install the software on up to five PC or Mac systems, as well as on up to five tablets and up to five smartphones.
Do you need to work with software specific to a degree program? Then come to our PC lab. For group work, invite your fellow students—two or three people can work together thanks to the dual-monitor PCs in our PC pool. Laptop users can take advantage of our tables, Wi-Fi, and outlets.
You will find the same equipment mentioned above, software, and toys for every age group in the parent-child room. You can work without distraction at the computers and your child can play in peace.
Power bank loans
Did you forget to charge your mobile phone? No problem! Just present your student ID and we can lend you a power bank for free. This allows you to recharge your mobile phone while you are out and about. You can loan these on a day basis from 10:00 - 16:00.

Can’t get your eduroam Wi-Fi on your laptop or mobile phone to work? We offer daily Wi-Fi support. Our customer service staff can help you set up your Wi-Fi access and are always available to answer your questions.
